Job description
SunPower Global is seeking a Senior Solar Design Engineer to lead the design of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants ranging from 50 MW to 500 MW across EMEA. You will own the technical design lifecycle from greenfield concept through detailed engineering, procurement support, and construction handover. Working within a multidisciplinary team of electrical, civil, and SCADA engineers, you will produce PV layouts, perform yield modelling and loss analysis, specify modules, inverters, trackers and balance-of-system equipment, and review single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and protection coordination studies. You will also interface with grid operators on interconnection studies and represent SunPower in technical due diligence with lenders and EPC partners. This is a high-impact role for an engineer who wants to shape the energy transition at gigawatt scale, mentor junior designers, and drive continuous improvement in our internal design standards and automation tooling.
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Electrical, Energy, or Renewable Engineering (or equivalent industry experience)
- 5+ years of hands-on utility-scale PV plant design experience using PVsyst and Helioscope
- Strong working knowledge of PV module, central and string inverter, and single-axis tracker technologies
- Experience producing AC/DC single-line diagrams, cable sizing, and short-circuit/protection studies
- Familiarity with grid code compliance, reactive power studies, and utility interconnection processes
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3D; Python or PVcase scripting is a strong plus
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews with EPC contractors, owners, and independent engineers
- Excellent written and spoken English; Spanish, German, or Italian is a plus
- Willingness to travel up to 20% to project sites across Europe and North Africa
